Clinical psychology is a good career to reach for if seriously interested in counseling. Clinical psychologists help alleviate the symptoms of serious mental disorders. Unlike patients usually seen by other types of counselors, these patients will have extremely disruptive mental issues and will require a lot more assistance. Clinical psychologists must graduate from college with PsyD doctorates or PhD doctoral degrees; these degrees are unavoidable for those wanting to practice clinically.
Those considering careers in counseling may even choose to become social workers. A social worker must have at least a Master’s degree in sociology or social work. This is a good and enjoyable career because social workers work everyday to relieve people’s suffering. They often give therapy to victims of assault or of domestic tragedy, working to help them get through things occurring in their environment. This includes substance abuse therapy, interventions, and case management.
